White Plains & Glencoe Girls, Westbrook Chr. Boys Win Golf Titles
The high school state championship golf tournament is in the books and it was a great day for teams in the East Alabama Community. In all, five teams won a trophy in Mobile, but one is extra special. The White Plains girls team won the school's first ever state championship in any sport today bringing home the blue in the Class 4A-5A division. Making the title even more special, the girls won it a month after the tragic death of fellow teammate Keaton Beam who passed away in a car accident. White Plains beat fellow area team Alexandria by 17 strokes.
White Plains won the Class 4A-5A state title with a 229-241—470 to beat runner-up Alexandria (487) by 17 strokes. UMS-Wright was third at 559. White Plains’ Layne Dyar was third (individually) with 74-80—154.

GIRLS: Glencoe finished 32-over 494 to win the girls’ 1A-3A state championship. Westbrook Christian was second at 508, Winfield third at 528 and Montgomery Academy, fourth, at 568.
BOYS: Westbrook Christian was a picture of consistency with two straight rounds of 301 to win the 3A state championship with a 13-over 602 total. Bayside Academy was second at 616, followed by West Morgan’s 626 and Indian Springs’ 655 totals.
