Couple Assaults Local Police Officers


A couple taken into custody by Heflin police Friday faces charges in three different states. Police arrested Shannon Myers Friday after a manhunt throughout Cleburne County. It all started early Friday morning when Shannon Myers and his girlfriend Cassie Malin assaulted two Heflin Police Officers after being tazed and fleeing into the woods near Highway 46 and I-20 area around exit 205. Myers was found about noon Friday close to the same spot he ran from earlier that morning. Since the couple's arrest, Police Chief A.J. Benefield says the department has been taking calls from numerous law enforcement agencies. Right now, they're both in the Cleburne County jail. Malin is charged with Resisting Arrest, 2 charges of Second Degree Assault, and 2 charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Myers is also charged with Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He has one charge of Second Degree Assault and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
