Weaver Elementary Opens an Outdoor Classroom

Students and teachers are extending the indoor classroom into the outdoors where textbooks can come alive in a living laboratory at one local school. Weaver Elementary School has an effective, sustainable outdoor classroom and wildlife habitat on their school grounds. Students and teachers say it is a place outdoors where they can study their environment and the world of living things. Weaver Elementary School Principal Summer Davis says the outdoor classroom consists of a covered pavilion area with tables and seating. They installed several raised bed vegetable, herb, and flower gardens, an aquatic study area with a pond, and a pollinator garden for the study of bees. The school will receive free technical advice from trained Master Gardeners through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
