White Plains Celebrates Historic Title In Girls Golf
The 2014-15 high school sports season has come to an end. Perhaps the most fitting championship win came from a school that had never laid claim to a blue trophy- the White Plains Lady Wildcats.
TV24 Sports dropped by White Plains on Tuesday. The girls golf team won the Class 4A-5A crown last week and today they started the groundwork on the official symbol of their big win. The team met with Herff-Jones (the company that will produce their championship ring) to design the hardware. This marks the first title in any sport in the history of the Wildcat athletic program.
Aside from being the first team to win a championship, the victory was extra special because of the adversity the team went through mid-year. The win was almost a month to the day after the tragic passing of teammate Keaton Beam.
This might be the first championship in school history, but it's not looking like it will be the last for the Lady Wildcats. Raegan Thompson is the lone senior on the team (she will play collegiate golf at Montevallo). The rest of the core is back for a run at a repeat title next season.
