Students Get Portion of Highway Named in Honor of Veterans

An idea to honor the veterans of the Iraq Afghanistan War that began in 2014 is unveiled. Westbrook Christian School government and social studies teacher Tammy Bean challenged her senior government class to find a unique way to give back to the community and they did. Today, the former Westbrook Christian School students participated in a dedication ceremony for the naming of a portion of Highway 411 for Iraq Afghanistan veterans. The class decided to honor the veterans who they say are the heroes of their generation. The Students obtained a resolution from both the Rainbow City Council and Gadsden City Council. Senator Phil Williams adopted a resolution and successfully passed it through the Alabama Legislature. The students who played a major part in seeing this project come to completion…Some are now freshman in college and they returned to their hometown to participate in today’s dedication ceremony. Jacksonville State University freshman Hayden Clay says it’s an experience he will take with him throughout his life. The memorial highway will extend from the intersection of Highway 411 and I-759 in Gadsden to the Ashville City limits.
