New Two-Year College System Board Swears In

Governor Robert Bentley swore in members of a newly appointed two-year college system board created by legislation passed this session. Bentley swore in the members at the board's first meeting this morning. The eight appointed board members come from each of Alabama's congressional districts. The governor serves as presiding officer when present. Bentley and Republican lawmakers who backed the law say the two-year system board will better represent the regions of the state and also improve workforce training. The state's 25 community colleges and technical schools were previously under the oversight of the state Board of Education. State school board members opposing the board called it a legislative power grab for state and federal dollars.
