Vandals target a house of worship in Jacksonville. Police say someone broke into the Alexandria Road Church of Christ sometime between Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening. Furniture, audio-visual equipment, and shelving were damaged and scattered throughout the sanctuary and office areas of the church. Additionally toilet paper and supplies were scattered about and phallic symbols were drawn in several areas of the church. Jacksonville Assistant Police Chief Bill Wineman says this crime affects the entire community and that evidence will be collected and sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics Science. Church Evangelist Murphy Priestley calls the act disturbing and disgusting. But he says they are going to clean up and have Sunday service. He adds that they need to know who did this. Wineman says the possible charge is burglary and within the burglary charge will be restitution. That means those who are responsible could be required to pay for the repairs.
