Zach Lovvorn Shines In Win Over Rome Braves
TV24 Sports ventured out to Rome, Georgia to catch up with a former local star. Oxford native and former Yellow Jacket pitcher Zach Lovvorn was on the mound for the Lexington Legends (Class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) against the Rome Braves. The game was a homecoming of sorts for the starting pitcher. Over thirty friends and family members made the trip to Northwest Georgia for the contest.
The extra fans made it more likely for Lovvorn to put extra pressure to win, but he shook it off and pitched an outstanding game. The fourth-year pro recorded six scoreless innings and led the Legends to a 6-2 win taking two games in the series.
Lovvorn was a catalyst for the Yellow Jackets 6A state championship in 2012. Since that time, he's improved in every season as a pro. Lovvorn says the grind of a 140-game season has helped him become a mentally sharp player and he wants to continue that improving as a player.
Lovvorn is off and running with his first win in the month of June. He was named the Legends pitcher of the month for May. Lexington begins a three game series at Augusta on Thursday.
