CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park Dedication
The new C-M-P Talladega Marksmanship Park hosts a dedication ceremony. The park boasts the latest technological advances in the realm of marksmanship. It features a 600-yard rifle range, a 100-yard multi-purpose range, and a 50-yard pistol range. The park will be open to the public, year round, offering many opportunities to marksmen of all ages. Chief Operating Officer Mark Johnson says people who are qualified or can purchase a firearm are allowed in the private facility. He says those customers will go through a short training program conducted by the facility. Special guests, Governor Robert Bentley and Congressman Mike Rogers say the facility will help state tourism. Rogers recently helped to pass an amendment in the National Defense Authorization Markup in the Armed Services Committee that will take 100,000 1911 handguns that were in storage and for law enforcement – and now make them available for sale to the public from the C-M-P. Tomorrow, the park will feature the John C. Garand D-Day Anniversary Match – commemorating not only the opening match at C-M-P Talladega Marksmanship Park, but the 71st anniversary of the Allied Forces landing at Normandy Beach in France back in 1944.
