Home Builders Blitz 2015

A group of homebuilders in Gadsden is racing against the clock this week to finish a new home as part of the Habitat for Humanity program. If they succeed in the challenge, their organization could receive a substantial donation to reward their efforts. Steve Scharfenberg, construction coordinator for the Gadsden-Etowah County Habitat for Humanity, explains what’s at stake. Scharfenberg says they’re building a 3-bedroom, one-bath house on Calhoun Drive in East Gadsden for a family of five. This is the seventh time the local homebuilders have taken part in the blitz build program, and this will be the 47th home built by the Gadsden Habitat chapter. The home under construction will be turned over to Allison and George Al-ah-GREE-ah, who were at the site this morning to watch as their new house takes shape. Allison says they are anxious to get settled into their own home. The East Gadsden home is one of more than 50 being built nationwide this summer as part of the Habitat Blitz Build program.
