Rabies confirmed in Cedar Bluff

For the first time in more than 10 years, a dog in Cedar Bluff has tested positive for the Rabies virus. A local veterinarian says the animal – a 6 or 7 year old Great Dane/Lab mix – may have contracted the disease after fighting with a raccoon two weeks ago. The dog had no record of being vaccinated against Rabies, and it was bitten by the raccoon during the fight. The Alabama Department of Public Health has contacted all of the people who had contact with the dog after the fight, and they are all receiving treatment from doctors.
