Two extra days of freedom have ended for a DeKalb County woman who escaped from custody during a Sunday drug raid. Sheriff Jimmy Harris says 34-year-old Courtney Dawn Steele was seen walking in the woods near County Road 44 in Cherokee County. A “concerned citizen” saw Ms. Steele and called the police, who arrested her and took her back to DeKalb County. She had been arrested Sunday but escaped from the back of a deputy’s car while members of the drug task force were collecting evidence in a nearby house. She now faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia – and third-degree escape.
