JSU Wins Broadcasting Award

Jacksonville State University’s Department of Television Services has been pulling in some big awards recently in competition with bigger schools from across the nation. Mike Hathcock, director of JSU’s TV Services, says the most recent award came from the Ohio Valley Conference’s Digital Sports Network. JSU received the top honor in the OVC’s top category in sports broadcasting for its coverage of last year’s game against the University of Tennessee-Martin. Hathcock says that while his department won for a specific program, that broadcast was just one of dozens shared with the OVC network. Hathcock says the OVC award honors the teamwork of his full-time staff of four people, and it also reflects well on the many student volunteers who work on the sports broadcasts. These students are taking communication classes at JSU, and they work for TV services to get real-world experience in broadcasting. In addition to the OVC award, JSU’s Department of TV Services also placed in the top five position in the 2015 College Sports Media Awards, which included entries from more than 400 schools nationwide.
