Saks Receives Grant for Pre-K Program

One local school receives a grant that will help 4-year-olds get a head start into Kindergarten. Saks Elementary School received a grant for $150,000 for a First Class Pre-K Program that the school will put toward salaries, a First Class Pre-School classroom, and playground. Saks Elementary School Principal Crystal Sparks says entrance to the program is based on a lottery system. Sparks says the classroom will be ready the first day of school and the playground will be installed shortly after school starts. She adds that the program is highly economical for parents and students. To apply for the program parents need to bring a power bill, proof of income, the child’s birth certificate, a social security card or some other form of identification, and a flu form. The child must be turning four years old by Sept 1st. Applications are due June 30th and notification of acceptance into the program is July 1st. Applications are being accepted at Saks Elementary School from Monday through Thursday from 8:00AM until 3:00PM.
