Joyce Garrard Appeal Hearing Delayed

A hearing on the appeal filed by a woman who was convicted of making her granddaughter run until she collapsed and died has been delayed. Court records show the hearing to discuss an appeal filed by Joyce Garrard in the February 2012 death of 9-year-old Savannah Hardin has been moved to July 24. The hearing was initially scheduled for Thursday. Garrard was convicted of making Hardin run for hours as punishment for lying about candy and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The girl's mother, Jessica Mae Hardin, is scheduled to go to trial in February. Prosecutors have accused her of failing to intervene before the girl collapsed and later died.
