Home Fire Preparedness Campaign

The American Red Cross Calhoun Cleburne Chapter helps increase early fire detection and warning in the homes of Anniston residents. The Anniston Fire Department knocked on doors to inform local residents about fire safety. They partnered with the City of Anniston and the Red Cross to help fund smoke detectors and install smoke detectors in the homes of West Anniston residents. American Red Cross Disaster Program Specialist Josh Tanner says many of the people he visited today didn’t even have a smoke detector prior to today. West Anniston resident Annie Elston was skeptical at first…She even worried that maybe her home was on fire… But once she realized what the fire department and the Red Cross were trying to do… Her fear turned to gratefulness and relief. The agency’s goal is to decrease the incidents of fire injuries and deaths by 25-percent over the next five years. Tanner says 83 smoke detectors were given out today and installed.
