Comptroller Accused of Stealing
Federal prosecutors have accused the former comptroller for the Boaz Housing Authority of stealing federal funds. U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance announced on Friday that 47-year-old Stanley J. Knop of Crossville has been charged with stealing more than $160,000 of Housing and Urban Development funds between 2010 and 2013. Boaz police arrested Knop in January 2014, after an audit turned up missing funds. He was also fired from his job at the housing authority. Knop could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the theft.
