With a new grant from the U-S Department of Labor more than 10,000 Unemployment Compensation claimants will be selected to receive one-on-one, intensive counseling services in order to help them rejoin the workforce.   Alabama Department of Labor Commissioner Fitzgerald Washington announces today that Alabama has received a grant for more than 1-million dollars from the U-S Department of Labor.  The program is known as the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessments program. This is the first year the grant has been awarded to Alabama. Services provided under the grant include: Development of an individual re-employment plan, Access to labor market information specific to the individual’s location, job skills, and employment prospects, One-on-one counseling sessions, A complete review of the claimant’s eligibility for unemployment compensation benefits, and Referrals to re-employment services or training.  Recent evaluations of Reemployment Assessment programs have shown that claimants who participate reduce the number of weeks that they receive unemployment compensation benefits.
