Authorities in Etowah County are investigating another drowning in the Coosa River. According to the sheriff's office, first responders were called to an area of the river at the old ferry landing off Highway 411 about 5:30 last night about a possible drowning. Less than two hours later, crews pulled a man's body from the water. The coroner's office identified the victim as 54-year-old James Garrett of Coates Bend. Authorities say Garrett and some friends were swimming with their dogs when he began to struggle and went under. His friends were not able to reach him. Crews from Ball Play, Coates Bend, Etowah County, Cherokee County and the Alabama Marine Patrol worked together on the search and recovery effort.
