Abduction Ends in Murder/Suicide

According to the Associated Press, the State Bureau of investigation is investigating an apparent kidnapping, murder, and suicide by a man’s mistress. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency the Jacksonville Highway Patrol Post received notification from Georgia law enforcement authorities of a vehicle pursuit entering Alabama on Interstate 20 that involved abduction. The vehicle stopped on I-20 at the 208 mile marker in Cleburne County. After a brief standoff, the driver shot the passenger and then herself. According to the Associated Press the victim was 49-year-old Sandra Barnett of Ellenwood, Georgia. They say she was abducted from her home Wednesday. The shooter and the victim are both deceased. A-L-E-A’s State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident at the request of the Cleburne County Sheriff. Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said, “S-B-I is working closely with law enforcement in Alabama and Georgia, and the S-B-I will report its findings to the District Attorney.” Nothing further will be released as the investigation is ongoing. The driver’s identity has not been released.
