Matthew Atkins Charged With 3rd Degree Burglary


The quick actions of a Cherokee County Sheriff Deputy lead to the arrest of a suspected burglar. 29-year-old Mathew Atkins of Centre was charged with third degree burglary and second degree theft of property. According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver on Sunday evening, Deputies were dispatched to a reported burglary and theft at a residence on County Road 307 at approximately 5:00 p.m. The Deputy conducted a search of the area and located some of the stolen property and evidence from the crime. The Deputy and the Investigator identified Atkins and transported him to the Sheriff’s Office for an interview. Atkins is being held in the Cherokee County Detention Facility pending a bond hearing.
