Governor In Search of a Budget Deal
Governor Robert Bentley says the only solution to a state budget shortfall of a projected $200 million is for taxes and spending changes to fix the problem long-term. The governor said today that he remains hopeful about the outlook for his $302 million tax package. That's despite the pessimism expressed by some lawmakers. A special legislative session resumed this afternoon following a break in which leaders tried to reach a consensus on a spending plan. Asked if he expects a second special session, Governor Bentley says he should know by midweek where things stand in the Legislature. The new fiscal year begins Octotber 1st.
