Hubbard Seeks to Delay Ethics Trial
Lawyers for Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard filed a motion seeking a continuance in his ethics trial. On Sunday, Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard asked a judge to postpone, saying his defense needs more time to prepare. The defense says there are numerous pretrial issues that have to be resolved, and lawyers need more time to go through millions of pages of documents turned over by prosecutors. Lawyers say they have also had difficulty accessing the materials. Hubbard is scheduled to go to trial on October 19, and the defense isn't suggesting an alternative date. Hubbard faces 23 felony ethics charges accusing him of using public office for personal gain. He says he is innocent of any wrongdoing.
