Traffic Advisory For Highway 21 and US 431
On Monday, August 10, at approximately 7 a.m. the Alabama Department of Transportation and its contractor will begin work on highway 21 to build acceleration deceleration lanes for the on off ramps that will connect highway 21 to the Anniston Eastern Bypass. Work will start on the outside lanes of the southbound and northbound roadways of highway 21. Traffic will be shifted approximately 3 feet to the left in this area with a barrier wall placed on the outside edge. After the work is complete in the outside lanes, traffic will be shifted back to the outside in order to work in the median. This process is expected to take months to complete.
Also, in the coming weeks, crossover work will take place on US 431 at Whiteside Avenue and at W. 45th Street in order to build temporary crossovers for the contraflow. Once the temporary crossovers are constructed, the northbound roadway will be put into one lane then will be moved to the southbound inside lane using the crossovers from Whiteside Avenue to north of W. 45th Street. All southbound roadway traffic will be moved to the outside southbound lane in this area and the travel lanes will be separated by a concrete barrier wall. This means there will be no left turns possible in this area. Sprague Avenue will be closed, along with Lindale Drive where they connect to US 431.
