7 day Alcohol Sales Up for Vote in St. Clair County

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

Residents in Riverside, Pell City, and Moody vote to allow alcohol sales on Sunday…  Polls opened today at 7 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m. at Riverside City Hall, Pell City Civic Center, and Moody City Hall. On April 15, Governor Robert Bentley signed a bill into law that allowed St. Clair County residents to vote on Sunday alcohol sales in their communities.  The vote in Riverside was 273 for alcohol and 73 against. The vote in Moody was 367 in favor of alcohol sales and 187 against. We don't have results for Pell City. The initial bill sponsored by Senator Jim McClendon of Springville was Senate Bill 529 and it authorized separate elections in each of St. Clair County’s municipalities and in its unincorporated areas to determine if voters were in favor of the measure.  The proposed item on the ballot asked if voters favored the legal sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages within this municipality on Sundays as further provided for and regulated by ordinance of the municipal governing body.”
