Salvation Army Welcomes New Leader

The Salvation Army in Anniston welcomes a new leader to its operations. Major Eric Roberts comes from a Salvation Army post in Mississippi with his wife and children. He has been a member of the organization for more than 20 years and says he and his wife are still focused on dedicating their lives, skills, and service to the ministry. Roberts says that what makes his agency’s ministry unique is that its worldwide work doesn’t overshadow the important work it does for local communities. One way the Anniston Salvation Army is helping its community is through its food pantry. According to Feeding America, more than 48 million people face the threat of hunger daily in the United States. To help mitigate that threat, the local post serves daily meals to anyone. Roberts says the pantry is in desperate need of donations. Roberts says there are numerous opportunities to perform service for your community at your local Salvation Army. The agency helps with disaster services, emergency financial assistance, transitional housing, a store, and church worship services. He adds that Anniston’s post is requesting volunteers to help cook meals for the men’s emergency shelter. The Anniston Salvation Army also has a thrift store that offers clothing and furniture to people in need. Those donations and financial assistance will provide Christmas dinners, clothing, and toys for families, including families of prisoners. He says if you would like to donate items to the store call 256-236-5643.
