Local Unemployment Rates

Alabama’s unemployment rate for the month of July stands at 6.2-percent. According to the latest figures Cherokee County’s unemployment rate is slightly better than the statewide average, coming in at just 5.9-percent. Surrounding counties however didn’t fare so well, with DeKalb and Cleburne each coming in at 6.6-percent, Etowah at 6.7-percent, and Calhoun at 7.7percent. The Education and Health Service sector saw the largest gain in job growth in July while the Leisure and Hospitality sector also showed strong gains; meanwhile there was significant growth in the construction sector as well.
