A Lee County Circuit Judge orders court filing referencing grand jury material to be under seal. That means indicted House Speaker Mike Hubbard’s challenge to Alabama’s ethics law will remain out of public view. Hubbard’s defense is questioning the constitutionality of parts of the 2010 law and how prosecutors are applying it. The challenge includes whether the political party activity should fall under ethics law. Hubbard once praised the new ethics law as a major step forward for Alabama when it passed five years ago. Hubbard is accused of using his positions as speaker and Alabama Republican Party chairman for personal gain. He faces 23 felony ethics charges.
