Talladega Municipal Elections


Talladega municipal elections took place today and four term incumbent Mayor Larry Barton faced challenges from opponents Vann Caldwell who is a veteran candidate and political newcomer Jerry Cooper Sr. The voters decided whether their mayor who was re-elected despite a federal conviction and who is recovering from an assault will be back in office. According to Talladega City Clerk Elizabeth Cheeks all the results are not in yet. So far results for Absentee Voting and Ward 2 are in, Larry Barton has 367 votes, Vann Caldwell has 39, and Jerry Cooper has 253. Barton served about three years in prison in the 1990s after being convicted of defrauding the city. On August 8th, he was assaulted outside a barbershop where he works part-time in the Birmingham suburb of Vestavia Hills.
