A bacteria that can be passed from birds to people causes the Birmingham Zoo to temporarily close the bird aviary. Zoo officials say tests found the bacterial infection that can cause respiratory problems in birds and humans. According to the zoo, the bacteria results in flu-like symptoms and can be treated with antibiotics. They say the aviary was closed after one of the lorikeets in the exhibit presented symptoms and tested positive for the bacteria.
