The Calhoun County School District and America’s First Federal Credit Union honor a Weaver Elementary School Guidance Counselor with this month’s Calhoun County School District Board of Education Employee of the Month. Tawana Bonds has been a Calhoun County School District employee for 18 years. And, she feels that in all that time the most important job she has is to identify barriers in her students’ lives that affect them academically. She says once she’s able to identify the problem, then she can help grow that student to be the best student possible. Bonds says it’s part of the pleasure of being with the children every day. Weaver Elementary School Principal Summer Davis says she is loyal to her community, and adds that one way Bonds is helping to improve her community is by initiating new and progressive programs for the students. Bonds started a Boys Day Out and a Girls Night Out for 5th and 6th graders. Davis says it is part of Bonds success plan for all of the students she serves. Weaver Elementary School Assistant Principal Amber Ray says Bonds is energetic and committed to her school. When asked about her feelings toward being selected as Employee of the Month; Bonds say she was shocked. As a reward for being selected as the Employee of the Month, Bonds was awarded two $100 gift cards from America’s First Federal Credit Union.
