8 Prosecuted for Unemployment Compensation Fraud

Eight people are charged with violating Alabama Unemployment Compensation law.  According to the Alabama Department of Labor they made false statements in claims for benefits.  The convictions were announced Thursday.  Arthur Smoot III of Talladega, Toby Rogers of Hurtsboro, and Phylis Nelms of Auburn were ordered to pay court costs and restitution in the amount of benefits received illegally.  Stacey Powell of Millbrook was sentenced to 10 years in jail.  Belinda Woods of Selma, Nathan Frye, Roslyn Greene, and Christine Nickle each of Mobile were sentenced to one year in jail.
