Boys & Girls Club Receives Honors


The Boys and Girls Club of Gadsden Etowah receive two of the state’s highest honors at a conference in Montgomery, recently. The Alabama Alliance of the Boys and Girls Club awarded the 2015 Children Are Reasons for Excellence Award to Gadsden Mayor Sherman Guyton and the 2015 Beverly Burton New Board Member of the Year Award to Jackie Brehm Edmondson. Chief Executive Officer Quez Williams says the award confirms the organizations mission; which is to help children dream. Guyton received the award during a luncheon at the Embassy Suites in Montgomery. He says he was really surprised to be given the award.Edmondson, who is the director of public relations and marketing at Gadsden State Community College, received the Beverly Burton Award at the recent conference. The Boys and Girls Club of Gadsden Etowah started serving the children of East Gadsden at the old Cory Middle School in December 2013. It was organized after the former club, the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Alabama, closed its doors. They now serve more than 300 members.
