FEMA Corps & Preparedness Month
Calhoun County residents learn about fire safety, tornadoes, thunderstorms, and much more from the Center for Domestic Preparedness and FEMA Corps who have partnered with Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency today, at Quintard Mall. The agencies used the opportunity to talk to people about FEMA Corps, a branch of AmeriCorps. And, they came together to provide mall patrons with emergency preparedness material. FEMA Corps Media Representative Larry Menendez says they have been in town for 3 weeks. And, within that time they have been able to work with Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency to reach the different communities with their resources. Menendez says AmeriCorps is a full-time, residential, national service program in which 1,200 young adults serve nationwide each year. He says Corps Members work on teams of eight to 12 on projects that address critical needs related to natural and other disasters, conservation, and development.
