Escaped Prisoner Shot to Death

A state prison escapee walks away from a residential transition center where he was serving his sentence and ends up shot to death by a Talladega County Deputy. 23-year-old Derick Davis was shot to death by a Talladega County deputy in his hometown of Sylacauga about 2 p.m. Saturday. It's not clear what led to the shooting. County officials turned over the investigation to state police, who aren't releasing details. Corrections spokesman Bob Horton says Davis was sentenced to three years in custody in January as a youthful offender. Details on the case weren't immediately available. A woman who identified herself as Davis' mother, Patricia Davis, says she can't get any information about her son's death.
