Police Officer Continues Appeal to Civil Service Board

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

An appeals hearing is underway this week for a former Anniston police officer who was fired after accusations surfaced that he had ties to a suspected hate group. Attorneys for Lieutenant Josh Doggrell presented character witnesses before the civil service board today. Doggrell was removed from the Anniston police force in June after he was  identified in a post by the Southern Poverty Law Center's Hatewatch blog, as having association with the League of the South. Another officer, Lieutenant Wayne Brown was also identified but the city said he retired in order  to avoid "adverse publicity" and "creating a distraction" for the police department. There's no word on when Doggrell might learn whether his job will be reinstated.
