Status Conference for Towles Trial

A courtroom status conference for a man previously sentenced to die for beating his step-son to death in 2006 took place today.Preliminary motions in the case of Kevin Andre Towles were heard in an Etowah County court. Towles was convicted of beating 5 year old son Geontae Glass to death in December 2006 with a piece of wood after his conduct grade dropped. The boy's mother, Shalinda Glass of Boaz, told authorities her son had been asleep in the back seat of her car when the car was stolen in Albertville. The boy was found later in the car, dead in the trunk, wrapped in a blanket, and the story of a car theft proved to be false. The mother pleaded guilty to murder in 2012 and is serving a life sentence. Last year, Towles' conviction was overturned due to what the Alabama Supreme Court called improper testimony. Today's status hearing dealt with moving toward the new trial date for Towles on November 16th.
