The decision to fire an Anniston city police officer with ties to a Southern secessionist group has been upheld. According to City Attorney Bruce Downey the Anniston Civil Service Board on Friday upheld the recent firing of city police officer Lieutenant Josh Doggrell. Downey says Doggrell has a right to appeal to the Circuit Court of Calhoun County. He adds that the city is pleased to have the matter behind it. According to reports Doggrell plans to appeal the decision. City Manager BrianJohnson dismissed Doggrell on June 19 in part because of his membership in the Alabama-based League of the South and statements he made to the group two years ago.
