History in Motion in Talladega

The Military Vehicle Preservation Association and its Dixie Division Military Vehicles Club are re-enacting a convoy with 65 member historical vehicles. The organization is commemorating the convoy of 1920 when the US Army decided to plan and execute a motor convoy of various military vehicles across the country on the newly-formed Bankhead Highway. The Dixie Division is hosting the Alabama leg of the convoy. The convoy has passed through Anniston and stopped for lunch at Talladega Speedway. The purpose of the convoy was to further the understanding of the practicality of motorized transport and its place in the US Army. The convoy started on September 14th in Washington, DC and will end October 17th in San Diego, California. This is the organizations 95th Anniversary Convoy. The convoy will layover at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park on Saturday. They will leave for Arkansas Sunday morning.
