ABC Store Cuts

Another state agency announces cut-backs due to the new state budget. The Alabama Alcoholic Beverage and Control Board says that it will close 15 of its retail liquor stores over the next three to six months. ABC Administrator Mac Gipson said in a news release yesterday that the legislature had moved five and a half million dollars from his agency's budget into the general fund budget giving the ABC Board just more than seventy million dollars to work with in fiscal year 2016. Gipson says that affected employees will be transferred to other stores. After the closings, the ABC will still operate 160 stores around the state. None of the expected closings are in the East Alabama region.
