RSVP Ribbon Cutting

A free, federal program to support volunteers 55 and better is recognizing its move into a new location with a ribbon cutting. According to United Way of East Central Alabama Executive Director Shannon Jenkins, in the Spring the United Way’s RSVP, or the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Calhoun County had to close its doors. Today, he says it has been absorbed into the United Way of East Central Alabama so its services can continue. RSVP helps guide seniors to a volunteer opportunity that matches their skills, experience, and lifestyle with a community need. Participants choose the volunteer opportunity addressing a focus area. They decide where they are willing to donate their time and choose the amount of time they want to give, and if they want to draw on skills or develop new ones.
