DOJ to Release Thousands of Federal Inmates
America’s federal prisons will see their populations thin out a bit in the next few weeks. The Bureau of Prisons says about 6,000 federal inmates will be released between October 30th and November 2nd. The reason is because all of the affected inmates are drug offenders, and are now eligible for release thanks to recent changes in federal drug sentences. The inmates went through an appeals process to win their release. It’s the largest one-time release of federal prisoners, and a Bureau of Prison spokesman says that number will grow in the future.
