Some local high school students got an unexpected day off today thanks to a broken water main. Students at Etowah High School in Attalla arrived for school this morning only to be sent back home by school administrators. Principal Ryan Barkley says that he was notified just before 7 o'clock this morning that a broken water main would prevent the school from having any water today. After conferring with Attalla City Schools Superintendent David Bowman, the decision was made to cancel classes for the day. Barkley also had some high praise for everyone involved in getting the students back home safely. Attalla Water Department officials worked throughout the day to make the necessary repairs and get the water flowing again. The work was completed by late afternoon and classes will be held as scheduled tomorrow.
