Complaint Against Alabama Justice

The Southern Poverty Law Center has filed a complaint against Alabama Supreme Court justice Tom Parker over his public comments against same-sex marriage with the Judicial Inquiry Commission. The complaint cites comments Parker made on a Christian radio show. Parker criticized the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage and said states should serve as a check on federal power. The complaint quotes Parker as saying that resisting gay marriage could start a "revival of what we need in this country." The complaint accuses Parker of showing disrespect for the judiciary and of violating ethical standards by commenting on a case before the state court. A court system spokesman couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
