State agency heads will not attend a meeting requested by a state senator who opposed tax increases in recent legislative sessions. Governor Robert Bentley's finance director sent a Thursday letter to agency heads instructing them not to attend the meeting requested by Republican Senator Paul Bussman of Cullman. Newton said state law sets out a budget process that includes budget hearings at the start of the legislative session. The senator is not chairman of a budget committee but does head the sunset committee that reauthorizes state boards and commissions. Bussman said he was upset by the governor's response. The senator said he was trying to find common ground and a process for obtaining information. Bussman was part of a group of Republican legislators who opposed tax increases proposed by Bentley.
