Toyota announced it is launching a recall for 6.5 million Toyota vehicles over a potential fire hazard related to the driver's-side power windows. According to a Toyota news release, the vehicles' power window master switch on the driver's side was produced without sufficient lubricant, creating the potential for fire. Owners of the vehicles will be notified by first-class mail. Dealers will inspect the power window switch and apply the necessary grease. They also will inspect the part for damage and replace it if necessary. The release says, if not enough grease is applied, under certain conditions the switch may develop a short circuit that can cause the switch assembly to overheat and melt. A melting switch can produce smoke and potentially lead to a fire. People can find out more about Toyota recalls at the Toyota recall web page.
