Local School Presents Red Ribbon Week

Local schools are partnering with communities to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of children through a commitment to drug prevention during the annual Red Ribbon Week. The annual Red Ribbon Week campaign is being observed this week in local school districts including Alexandria High School. Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Matthew Wade says the week serves as a vehicle for students to become educated and make a personal commitment to live drug free lives with the ultimate goal being the creation of a drug free America. Dakota Dyer Foundation Director and special guest speaker Lance Dyer says he hopes to inform and remind students of the dangers and consequences of drugs and substance abuse in a way that will have a lasting impact. He says the drug war is just getting started. Red Ribbon Week commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by D-E-A Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who died at the hands of drug traffikers in Mexico while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country and children safe.
