High School Football Awards: Week 10

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Every Tuesday night we'll hand out the high school football awards for the previous Friday's performances.

The Foothills Tractor Player of the Week is Saks running back Calvin Figueroa. The star has been sensational all season but Friday night Figeueroa was sensational. Figueroa rushed for 262 yards on 26 carries and four touchdowns in the Wildcats 63-36 victory over Jacksonville. The win moves Saks to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in Class 4A Region 6. The Wildcats enter the state playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the region and are set to host West Limestone in the first week of the state playoffs on Nov. 6. Before the postseason, Figueroa and the Wildcats will close the regular season against LaFayette this Friday night.

The KFC-Jackson Mortgage Team of the Week is Anniston. The Bulldogs were in a must-win game against then-undefeated Alexandria and picked up a 25-0 victory over their county rivals. The win means the Bulldogs will participate in the Class 5A playoffs as the No. 4 seed in Region 6. It also means the team will enjoy the meal from KFC on Thursday as well as the Jackson Mortgage Company Trophy and the team of the week t-shirts. The Bulldogs will close out the regular season this Friday night in a home game against Ft. Payne before opening the postseason at Russellville on November 6th.
