Local governments receive grants to improve and update important services for their communities. Community Development Block Grants awarded by Governor Robert Bentley will fund improvements to water and sewer systems and a park in east Alabama. Attalla is receiving $450,000 for repairs to a 70-year-old sewer system. A more than $430,000 grant will help Jacksonville upgrade antiquated water lines and install new fire hydrants. Etowah County will use a $350,000 grant to upgrade undersized water mains and install new fire hydrants. Randolph and Chambers counties will each use $350,000 grants for water line extensions. Heflin is using a $190,000 grant to upgrade exterior features of the Community Arts Center.
