The German Italian POW Cemetery at McClellan now has a certificate recognizing the site’s addition to the state’s historical cemetery register. At the 15th annual memorial service scheduled for 11:00AM Sunday at the cemetery, a plaque honoring the cemetery’s new place in the register is expected to be unveiled. Coordinator Klaus Duncan says most of the POWs descendants don’t even know their family members are buried at the cemetery. So he says that is his charge, to treat the POWs final resting place respectfully.26 German and three Italian prisoners of war are buried at the cemetery. Sunday’s ceremony will have a special guest speaker, music, and wreath laying. After the ceremony the event will continue at the Berman Museum where there will be German food.
